Texas School Safety Certification – “Teacher License to Carry at School”
The Texas Department of Public Safety has developed the School Safety Certification course. This School Safety course trains the current Texas License to Carry license holders that are faculty and staff in tactics to avoid the shooter, deny entry into an area, and the defense of the students. This is the only State certified course addressing school carry. The main training on this course will focus on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy. This is a Texas Department of Public Safety Certification course designed to train educators to carry defensive handguns on school campuses with the Texas D.P.S. approved training for school districts and teachers. This is a state-mandated two days of instruction that will place students into real-world scenarios and testing.
Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) Goals:
- Protection of Students
- Interaction of license holders with first responders
- Tactics for denying an intruder entry into a classroom or school facility
- Methods for increasing a license holder’s accuracy with a handgun while under duress
When you complete the course, you will receive a Texas D.P.S. Proof of Training Form. We will file the Completed courses requirements with Texas Department of Public Safety as a part of your Texas License to Carry (LTC) in accordance with Texas Government Code 411.1901.
